As the demand for recycled timber increases across commercial and residential projects within Australia, the need for an industry wide standard has never been more important.

The recently released Interim Industry Standard for Recycled Timber offers manufacturers, suppliers and users specific grading guidelines.

Published by the Forest and Wood Products Australia, the primary objective of the guidelines is to provide the Australian recycled timber industry with a professional, consistent standard.

The two guidelines available outline the requirements for visually grading recycled hardwood timber intended for Structural Use and Decorative Applications.

The guidelines address key points and considerations in addition to general, product and grading requirements.

Although green star and environmentally friendly buildings have long advocated for the use of recycled hardwood, this is the first time visual grading rules have been developed for recycled timber in Australia.
